Garbage Collection and Recycling

Pay your utility bill

Sanitation Services

The City provides automated curbside collection of residential garbage and recyclable materials through Allied Waste (formerly known as BFI).

The City will bill each customer on a monthly basis through utility billing. Bills are mailed the last week of each month and are due by the 20th day of the following month. Monthly (container rental and waste collection) charges are as follows:

One (1) garbage container (96 gallons) $9.70
Additional garbage containers (each)
$8.45
Senior's Option container (70 gallons) $9.35
Recycling containers (each)
$3.80

Containers and Collection Services

The City provides residences with 96-gallon containers for garbage and recycling services. All containers are stamped with the City's logo and a serial number, which number is recorded by the City. Garbage containers are gray in color; recycling containers are green in color with a lid labeled "Recyclable Materials Only".

Residents are responsible for all containers assigned to their residences. The City may charge a fee to replace missing containers.

Except holidays as specified below, Allied Waste will collect garbage and recyclables on the same day each week using two different trucks. To ensure pickup, residents should place garbage and recycling containers at curbside the night before or by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of your pickup day.

Please follow this link to see the collection routes map and route descriptions to determine the correct collection day for your residence. Four holidays affect the collection schedule: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Collections for those days are delayed by one day and for all days remaining in that week. A Tuesday collection day falling on one of those holidays will be delayed to Wednesday, Wednesday collections to Thursday, and so forth until Friday's collections are completed on Saturday.

If your garbage or recyclables were not picked up, please contact Allied Waste at 972-4234. If your container is missing, damaged, or for any other questions, please contact the South Jordan City Utility Billing Clerk at 254-3742.

South Jordan participates in the TransJordan Landfill. Please note that the City's contractor observes the same holiday schedule as the landfill, therefore there will be no collections on New Year's, Christmas, Independence, and Thanksgiving days. Following such holidays, collections after the holiday are delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.

The City's "New Move In Packet" contains the "Notice of Garbage Regulations" from Allied Waste. This notice includes information such as where to place the containers, how to handle certain materials, and a caution against overfilling the containers. The City provides 96-gallon containers with lids. All solid waste should be contained within the confines of this container. Allied Waste may refuse a load for unsafe conditions including overfilled containers and those containers containing disallowed materials or liquids.

Senior's Option: Smaller Garbage Containers

South Jordan City is implementing a smaller garbage container program for senior citizens and handicapped persons who own and reside in their home. Upon written request, 70-gallon containers will be switched with the regular garbage containers and a reduced fee will be charged for this container. No changes are currently planned for recycling containers. Please contact the South Jordan City Utility Billing Clerk at 254-3742.

Cart Delivery and Pick Up Fee

Many home owners have a need for additional solid waste containers during the growing season (for green and yard waste) from April to November each year. To accommodate residents and upon request, the City will deliver extra containers and pick them up again for an additional delivery and pick up fee of $54 per occurrence (waived for containers rented for 12 months or more) charged at time of pick-up. For each month (or part of a month) in which containers are assigned to a residence, an additional garbage container fee is also assessed.
