Chili Cook Off Information
Entry Deadline: September 12, 2008 – Limit of 12
teams or individuals

Rules: All preparation of
ingredients and cooking must be done on site. The
only exceptions are canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper
sauce, beverages, broth and grinding and/or mixing of spices. Meat may be
treated, pre-cut or ground, but MAY NOT BE PRE-COOKED. All other ingredients
must be chopped or prepared during the preparation period.
Contestants should make at
least 2 gallons of chili and must provide cooking and storage equipment
including cooler(s) w/ice, cooking thermometer, pots, towels, cooking utensils;
spoons, knives cutting boards etc. as well as their own cooking heat source,
preferably “camping style” stoves. No open flames or fire pits allowed. Dutch
ovens can be used as long as they rest and are heated on a camping stove.
The City will provide tables, tenting, signage, water
for cooking and cleanup, hand washing stations, paper and plastic products for
distributing to the public and judges, and the food handlers permit.
Prizes: Grand Prize: Judges selected from
local restaurants, politicians, etc.
People’s
Choice Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd: Event
attendees will be given a sample cup and ballot to vote for their favorite.
Scarecrow Contest Information
Residents and
businesses are invited to decorate a Scarecrow for display throughout autumn on
Towne Center Drive.
The City will
provide a wooden frame, basic head, and straw for creating the scarecrows.
Interested residents should bring their creativity and scarecrow attire that
will hold up in the outside elements as scarecrows will be displayed outdoors.
On the day of the
event, attendees will be invited to vote for their favorite. Prizes will be
award to the scarecrows that receive the most votes.
If you would like
to decorate a scarecrow, please register below as only a few will be available
on the day of the event.
