Classes are $7.50 for non-society members and $5.00 for society members.

Register online at http://register.sjc.utah.gov.

Wear? No special clothes are needed for the classes. Just wear your modern casual clothes and some comfortable flat shoes.

What? You do not need to have any previous dance experience. If you can walk, count and turn about, you can vintage dance. Vintage dances are group dances, so you aren’t left alone on the dance floor. Kimberli teaches each dance before the music is played and prompts your steps while you are dancing to the music.

Who? Anyone 14 and older, unless previous permission has been granted for younger people. You don’t need to bring a partner, although it is more enjoyable if you do.

Candy Windows at Light the Night
Aug 30 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

South Jordan City invites talented artists to submit a proposal for the creation of a candy window display for the annual holiday Light the Night celebration.

Entry Deadline: Friday, August 30, 2019 by 5:00 p.m.

What: Request for proposals are sought in order to select commissioned artists for the December 2019 candy window displays.

Description: South Jordan City Candy Window Sculptures

Artists will be responsible for developing an original conceptual and artistic creation, building, and installation of the candy to the sculpture. The City will provide the sculpture, base, and candy.

Each proposal must include the artist(s) name, concept drawing or digital rendering of the sculpture, a list of materials to be used, type and amount of candy proposed for use in design, timeline to complete candy sculpture by November 15, 2019 deadline, description of transport of sculpture to South Jordan City, and brief description of installation.

The City will determine funding allocated for each art piece and pay for the cost of materials for a completed piece. All awarded design concepts and completed sculptures will be the express property of the South Jordan City.

Each art piece will receive a monetary honorarium for its associated artist(s).

Design proposal: Each applicant will submit a rendering encompassing this year’s theme – “Classic Christmas” with each design proposal.

(Note: actual window sizes will vary. Rendering should fit a 2’x 2’x 4’ space. The Arts Council will select location dependent on rendering.)

Selection Criteria considered:

  • Does the proposal incorporate the 2019 holiday theme?
  • Does the proposal follow acceptable design principles?
  • Does the proposal include a creative concept that will engage the public?
  • Is the proposal feasible?

Dates to Remember:

Design proposal submission deadline: August 30, 2019 by 5:00 p.m.

Announcement of winning concepts: September 2, 2019

Installation dates: December 2 – 5, 2019

Public unveiling: December 6, 2019

Please direct any questions to: Haley Greene at sojoarts@sjc.utah.gov

The City of South Jordan encourages artists to submit ideas for more than one window size. Design concept proposals that include alternate formats, dimensions, or substitution elements will improve an artist’s chance of selection as the City must address varying window area and locations displaying sculpture.

Proposal submissions should be mailed/emailed to:  Haley Greene, Arts Program Coordinator at sojoarts@sjc.utah.gov
