Secondary Water between 3200 West and 2200 West has been shut down for the season. The current issue with the Utah Lake Distributing canal involves the canal losing water in Bluffdale. It is a more significant problem than was originally assessed by canal company officials. City staff met with canal officials to assess and offer help to fix the issue. It was determined that geotechnical and engineering work are needed to determine the best fix, which will take at least 3-4 weeks to complete. For this reason, canal company officials made the decision to shut down the canal for the remainder of the watering season.

The City recognizes that this is an inconvenience for residents. Moving forward, the City intends to become more involved with the general management of this canal company, in an effort to minimize the number of water supply disruptions. The City may seek to have a staff member elected to the canal company board for 2019. Additionally, we will be meeting with canal company officials on a more regular basis to assess canal conditions and offer assistance and resources to prevent situations like the one that is being experienced now.
