As early as Friday Jan. 22, 2021, UDOT will implement a long-term, east-west closure of 12600 South across Bangerter Highway. This closure will remain in place through August 2021, and will facilitate construction of the grade-separated interchange. Designated detour routes will be signed for drivers navigating the area. Several of those routes take drivers onto South Jordan roads, including 11400 South, 4000 West, 3600 West, and 11800 South.
Although east-west traffic will be restricted, northbound and southbound drivers on mainline Bangerter Highway will have free-flow travel with the permanent removal of the traffic signal. Right turn movements to/from 12600 South will also be allowed.
The decision for the east-west closure was made in partnership with UDOT and Riverton City due to the complexity of the new interchange. To construct the underpass on 12600 South, crews will build from the “top down,” starting with bridge components first, followed by excavating the underpass. This approach will emphasize safety for both the traveling public and workers and allow efficient interchange construction.
The 10400 South closure is planned for this spring.
