It’s almost time for the general election. You may be wondering what has changed this year due to the pandemic. Below is what you can expect for the 2020 General Election in Salt Lake County and South Jordan.

Salt Lake County and all the counties in Utah are on a vote-by-mail system. For this election, in the midst of the pandemic, it is going to be more difficult to accommodate in-person voters. The County and the State Legislature are encouraging voters who have received their by-mail ballot to use it. The in-person vote centers are meant to accommodate those who did not receive a ballot in the mail or need ADA accommodations. Click here to see what you have as your voting preference.

Here are a few things to note about mail-in voting:

  • Ballots Will be mailed the week of October 12th according to Utah State law.
  • If you need your ballot mailed to an address other than your home address where you are registered to vote, call 385-468-7400 or email got-vote@slco.org.
    • The post office does not forward ballots.
    • Postage-paid return envelopes will be provided.
  • Voters may update their address eleven days before Election Day (Oct 23rd at 5:00 p.m.) and be mailed a ballot if they are eligible to receive a ballot based on their party affiliation.
  • Ballots may be returned by mail (first-class postage paid) or deposited in any of the 21 drive-up ballot drop boxes (open 24/7) throughout the County up through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

If you are looking for additional information on vote-by-mail, please visit the County’s FAQ section.

The only drop-box available in South Jordan is:

  • South Jordan City Hall (East Side of Building)
1600 W. Towne Center Drive, South Jordan, UT 84095

Here are a few things to note about in-person voting:

  • Early voting and Election Day vote centers will be available to accommodate voters who chose not to receive a mailed ballot.
  • Vote centers are generic and a voter may use any center in the county regardless of where they reside.
  • Pursuant to Salt Lake County Public Health Order, voters are required to wear masks. Also, poll workers, voting machines and voters in line will be socially distanced by 6 feet.
