[ARCHIVED] Tax Education 101 - SoJo Summerfest

Stilt walkers Posing Summerfest 2021

Why do we have SoJo Summerfest every year? This event directly ties to one of the City's strategic priorities - Engaged Community. South Jordan's strategic priorities are determined by our residents through their representatives - the City Council.

Every year our City staff gather's data and feedback from our residents in the annual resident survey. The City Council uses that information to ensure that the City's strategic priorities are still on target. Those priorities are then used in our Priority Based Budgeting process to determine where tax dollars are spent.

Our residents have made it clear that they want to gather together and enjoy the best of what summer has to offer. This desire for a vibrant community through having spectacular events is why the City invests in SoJo Summerfest. Residents get good value for the dollar for Summerfest and more. The entirety of our recreation programming in the City accounts for only 2.25% of our general fund expenditures.

To learn more about taxes, how much of your tax dollars go to the City, and more about how South Jordan uses them, visit our Tax Education 101 page.
