[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Corner: Innovation and Progress

Mayor Ramsey

I wanted to share a few thoughts about innovation and progress. South Jordan has  been ahead of the game in many aspects of municipal government, including managing growth and planning for our future. This is thanks to the vision and leadership of our City Council and staff, and for a shared desire to look far beyond our own terms in office.

South Jordan has led the way and been an example to other cities in terms of water conservation, having one of the first dedicated water conservation coordinators in the state. In 2019, we also received the State's first ever water efficiency award. We consistently build infrastructure in advance of needing it by collaborating with partners to anticipate our growth, which ultimately saves us money in the long run. Our residents have appreciated these efforts, and you have been very responsive to these programs. During the 2021 water year, South Jordan conserved more water than any other user agency in the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. (Thank you!)

We are doing a great deal to look at the future of our water security both here in our City and the state. We recently got our new water purification demonstration project— Pure SoJo — up and running. Once we've had a year of testing and can finalize our educational materials, we will open the facility to tours and potentially even water tastings.

We recently committed to do our part to aid the Larry H. Miller Group's new urban corridor initiative in Daybreak. This area will feature employment centers, entertainment venues, housing, restaurants, stores and more, and we’re working on models to do so in an extremely water efficient way.

Maintaining the quality of life we enjoy here in South Jordan is paramount. If we continue to plan well, while constantly looking for ways to maximize efficiency of both our physical and natural resources, we can continue to enjoy a high quality of life, while also leaving a strong and well prepared community for future generations to enjoy. I assure you, we will continue being innovative and proactive on behalf of our residents to ensure the future remains bright in South Jordan.
