[ARCHIVED] National Senior Center Month - Mayor's Message

Seniors gathered around tables at a Generation Day Activity

I love our vibrant senior community in South Jordan! You are engaged, knowledgeable, and care about our beautiful city. The conversations we have are enlightening and enjoyable. As I talk with you, I find that many of you aren’t aware of the amazing senior programs we offer in our community.

I encourage you to check out the classes offered at our South Jordan Community Center. We offer weekly vital aging classes along with mental health therapy to help navigate life’s challenges. You can learn how to play pickleball, use a computer, or speak French—all in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

You can also come to the Center just to make new friends, join a club, paint or do Tai Chi. Join the fun and sign up for a field trip to explore gardens and museums, enjoy the fall leaves up the canyon or attend Kingsbury Hall matinee performances. September is National Senior Center Month so we will have special events like the Fall Banquet, Patriotic Luncheon and Senior Health and Wellness Fair. If you need a ride, please reach out! We can provide free transportation between your home and the Center. You can even enjoy breakfast and lunch for a minimal donation Monday through Friday, thanks to Salt Lake County Aging Services.

If you want to make a difference, we would love to have you as a volunteer. There are six openings on our Senior Advisory Committee, and the Gale Center needs hosts for the museum. Additionally, the SoJo Choral Arts welcomes your support either by joining one of their four choirs, playing an instrument, or coming to enjoy a free concert.

Seniors, you are a vital part of our community. We need your experience, wisdom and knowledge, and most of all, your presence. I hope you will join in on one or all of these activities to enrich your life and those you meet along the way.
