SOUTH JORDAN, UT – September 6, 2022 – The City of South Jordan will dedicate the first ever Gold Star Families Memorial Monument to be built in Salt Lake County and the third in the State of Utah.
These monuments honor the families of active military members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. That is a message that our Mayor and City Council wanted to bring to the Gold Star Families in South Jordan and the whole Salt Lake Valley.
“We are excited to be dedicating this monument that was more than a year in the making,” said South Jordan Mayor Dawn Ramsey. “We hope that this monument lets our South Jordan Gold Star Families know how much their city truly appreciates them and their sacrifice.”
Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments are a two-sided tribute made of black granite. One side bears the words: Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom. On the other side of the monument, there are scenes etched on each of the four panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot and Sacrifice. At the center of this tribute, is a silhouette of a saluting service member which represents the Legacy of the Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
In attendance at the event on September 7, 2022, will be several Gold Star Families, City leadership, school performance groups, and remarks will be given by Congressman Burgess Owens. The program for the dedication is attached.
