FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SOUTH JORDAN, UT – October, 4, 2022— U.S. Congressman Burgess Owens met with the City of South Jordan’s Youth Council to discuss the importance of service.
"The South Jordan Youth Council is just one of the many reasons that Utah's future is so bright," said Rep. Burgess Owens. "These young leaders are learning firsthand the importance of dreaming big and serving others, and I am thrilled to see them taking on such a vital role in bettering our communities."
Congressman Owens talked about his football career, starting a non-profit, and his journey to becoming a congressman.
He taught the students about his four guiding principles of faith, family, free markets, and education, encouraging the students to get as much education as possible.
“We truly appreciate Congressman Burgess Owens for coming to meet with our South Jordan Youth Council,” said South Jordan Mayor Dawn Ramsey. “It was a remarkable opportunity for our bright young people to spend quality time with their congressman. He was a great source of knowledge and several youth mentioned how much they enjoyed the relatable, transparent, candid conversation. It was an afternoon they’ll not soon forget.”
The South Jordan Youth Council is comprised of 34 members in 9th-12th grade. They spend their service volunteering for various City events and coordinating community service projects. They meet once a month with various City departments to learn what it takes to run a city.
