SOUTH JORDAN, UTAH - June 19, 2023 - Bingham Creek Regional Park is gearing up for an unforgettable grand opening event on June 22, captivating the South Jordan community and Salt Lake County. Bingham Creek Regional Park, at 160 acres, will be the largest regional park in Salt Lake County. It was once a gravel quarry and has undergone a remarkable transformation. Phase I enhancements include mass-grading, infrastructure integration, and an $18 million investment. The Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts, and Parks program contributed $13.2 million, with $1.5 million from the county's general fund and $3 million from South Jordan City.
"This new Bingham Creek Regional Park creates a vibrant and fun oasis for our community," said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. "Salt Lake County, the Zoo, Arts, and Park Program, and South Jordan City came together to improve lives and preserve open space. We are building a legacy of recreation, community, and environmental stewardship."
The long-awaited grand opening of the park was made possible by the strong relationship and collaboration between Salt Lake County and the City of South Jordan. It's a day that South Jordan Mayor Dawn Ramsey has been excitedly looking forward to.
"Bingham Creek Regional Park is a transformative addition to our community," said Mayor Ramsey. "It will become a place where families can unite, revel in nature's wonders, and engage in numerous recreational activities. Let us join together in celebrating this momentous occasion."
The grand opening event will be a true celebration where attendees can indulge in food truck fare, play lawn games, embark on a scavenger hunt, and engage in the unique experience of riding conference bikes. Additional highlights include kite flying, face painting, and the Clark Planetarium's Astro Van, featuring a solar telescope.
Throughout the park, various booths will showcase organizations and amenities. Visitors can explore the Bees booth to learn more about the baseball team moving to South Jordan, discover exciting community initiatives with LiveDaybreak, and even visit a Salt Lake County Health vaccine clinic.
