[ARCHIVED] Fire Wet Down and Push in Ceremony

Fire Fighter and children pushing a fire truck into service

The tradition of a wet down and push in ceremony dates back to the late 1800s when the United States was seeing rapid growth across the Country. The fire service evolved from bucket brigades to the invention of hand drawn fire pumps, and eventually horse drawn fire apparatus. When firefighters returned to the station after a fire, they would unhitch the horses and wet them down before pushing the fire pumper into the fire station. This eventually became a tradition when placing new fire apparatus in service.

We would like to thank Mayor Dawn Ramsey, our City Council members Patrick Harris, Brad Marlor, Don Shelton, Tamara Zander, Jason McGuire, and our City Manager Gary Whatcott for their support in the acquisition of these vehicles. This addition to the Fire Department’s fleet helps us accomplish our part of the City’s Strategic Priorities, as well as delivering services that align with the vision, mission and values of this great city. Thank you again for all the support you give us. Because of your vision and efforts in planning, the Fire Department is well prepared to offer our services to the amazing residents in South Jordan City.
