SOUTH JORDAN, UT – Around 8 p.m. on November 26, 2021, two South Jordan Police officers were involved in a critical incident at a home in the area 10450 S. Tarali Ct. While at the home looking for a suspect in a recent recovered stolen vehicle case officers encountered the suspect in the basement of the home where he opened fire on them. One officer was shot in the leg and seriously injured, he was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition. The second officer was not injured. Both officers returned fire, critically injuring the suspect. The suspect was also transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery – he is currently in stable but critical condition.

Per department policy, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal review of the incident. The Salt Lake County officer involved critical incident protocol has been invoked; Team 2 is investigating this incident. The protocol team is a multijurisdictional unit comprised of investigators from police departments throughout the valley not including the agency(s) involved.
