    The City of South Jordan is looking for a graphic artist to design for 5 3’x5’ informational signs, a 6’x6’ overview sign, a 10’x10’ selfie station background as well as decorative paneling that is approximately 100’x3’ (divided into sections).

    The purpose of this project is to educate the public about the water purification process and to make it fun for both kids and adults alike. The idea is to liven up the facility, so color is welcome. This would have some infographic elements, some elements that include nature scenes – Utah mountains, reservoirs, the water cycle, with images that promote thoughts of pure, clean, sustainable water.

    This project will include multiple phases:

    1. Interested artists submit examples of work by June 30, 2022.
    2. City selects top artists by July 6, 2022, at which point they will be given a vision by City to do a draft sketch/concept to be compensated in the amount of $1500 each.
    3. Artists submit sketch/concept by July 20, 2022 for review.
    4. City selects top artist by July 22, 2022 to submit a proposed budget. If acceptable, City will contract with artist for project.
    5. Design to be submitted to City by August 5, 2022.
    6. Adjustments to product as needed and final digital files and derivative elements to be delivered to the City by August 10, 2022.

    The site is in a restricted access industrial building in the Salt Lake Valley. 


    The City of South Jordan is looking for designs that:

    • Are fun & beautiful
    • Help contribute to the educational message
    • Has graphic elements that the City can use derivatives of in other documents.


    The anticipated budget range for this project is $8,000 -$15,000, and is inclusive of artist’s fees and related expenses for design and granting the City a perpetual, exclusive license to create and/or display artwork and to alter and/or create derivative works. Artwork shall be provided to the city as scalable digital files (i.e. vector files), which allow alteration. 

    Artist shall grant the aforementioned license to the City via an agreement that allows the City the use of the artwork and any or all elements of the artwork as the City desires, including but not limited to the option to crop, fade, adjust coloring and/or sizing of any elements and to delete or add additional elements of the artwork as necessary to accommodate City purposes. Decisions made regarding use of the artwork shall be made in the City’s sole discretion. 

    Artist acknowledges the rights of integrity and attribution conferred by Title 17 of the U.S. Code, Section 106A (a), paragraphs (2) and (3) and of his/her own free will hereby waives such rights with respect to the City use of the artwork including but not limited to the right to maintain, remove, modify as described above, or destroy the artwork.*

    *Please note that the facility where the main body of the artwork will be housed is a private building. People will be touring through it and any additional materials created from the artistic elements will be used for educational and not commercial purposes.


    • Colors: Colors utilized must be reproducible and the color name and number shall be submitted with this application.
    • Derivatives: Info-graphic design elements must be accessible as individual assets as well as a part of the complete designs described above.


    A committee of City staff will review all of the properly submitted applications and select a proposal/artist. In selecting the artist/team for this project, the following criteria will be considered:

    • Final artwork that is one-of-a-kind, site specific, and meets the project goals;
    • Artistic excellence, innovation, and originality as evidence by visual documentation and supporting materials; 
    • Ability to meet deadlines and budget and to perform work in timely, professional manner;
    • The artist selected for the project will sign an agreement with the City of South Jordan prior to final design. 


    Submissions that meet all of the application requirements will be reviewed. To be considered for this project, applicants must submit all of the required materials via the online submission form or through a shared file location. There is no application fee to apply or to use the online application system. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered. The applicant’s name must appear on all submitted materials.  

    All materials not specifically requested as part of this application or format requirements may not be considered or reviewed by the Selection Committee. 

    Incomplete submissions or any application that has not been submitted within the parameters set forth above, as determined by City staff, may not be reviewed or considered.

    Compile three to five (3-5) images of unique examples of past work into a single document. If applicable, please provide examples of completed past work of similar scope, scale, and budget. Each example within the document must include the title, date of artwork completion/installation, media, dimensions (height x width x depth, in feet), location, final project cost and a brief description of the work.
