Due to the State’s directive on Friday, the landfill will be closed to all but “essential” haulers effective Monday, March 30, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. This closure will remain in effect until further notice.

Essential* haulers are defined as City operated refuse trucks and commercial haulers with existing accounts that haul waste in a front-loader, side-loader, or roll-off container truck. Update March 14, 2020 1:15pm
Due to resident and patron concerns, the City decided to close the Fitness & Aquatics Center at 3 p.m. today instead of normal closing time.

Original Update March 12, 2020 3:58 p.m.

At noon on March 12, the State hosted a press conference where they offered guidelines for entities, including municipal governments, on how they should respond to the spread of COVID-19. Those recommendations take effect beginning Monday, March 16th and are to last for two weeks, at which point the State will re-evaluate those recommendations. The City of South Jordan plans to follow the State and County’s lead on closures and gatherings to help stem the spread of the virus.

The recommendations are as follows:

  • No gatherings of more than 100 people for healthy individuals, if you’re sick don’t show up.
  • Those 60 years of age or older or who have compromised immune systems should avoid gatherings of 20 or more people.
  • Employers should encourage employees, when possible, to work from home.

In light of these recommendations, the City will be doing the following:

Facility Updates

  1. The South Jordan Community Center will be closed through March 30 starting at the end of normal operating hours today, March 12th. This means that all Community Center programming will be cancelled or postponed. Program coordinators are reaching out to program participants regarding these cancellations, as well as those with any upcoming facility rentals that are impacted.
  2. Regarding Senior Programming, Salt Lake County will do bag lunches for seniors who need that service. Seniors can sign up for this service by calling (801)-446-4357. Seniors may then pick up the lunches by driving up to the Community Center between the hours of 11:30 and 12:30 on weekdays and lunches will be brought to their car by Community Center staff.
  3. The Gale Center Museum will be closed through March 30 at the end of normal operating hours today, March 12th.
  4. The South Jordan Fitness & Aquatics Center will be closed through March 31 at the close of business Saturday, March 14th. This means that all programs and classes within the Fitness & Aquatics Center will be cancelled or postponed. Recreation coordinators are reaching out to those who have rented the facility and to those who have registered for classes during that time. This includes aquatics (swim lessons), dance, and Kids Camp. No additional facility rentals will be taken at this time.
  5. The community rooms in the South Jordan Public Safety Building will not be scheduled for public use. Scheduled events in those rooms for the next two weeks have been canceled.
  6. Mulligans Golf Course will remain open until further notice and have implemented procedures to help keep customers safe by increasing cleaning, hand washing and monitoring employees who are working.

Event Updates

  1. Missoula Children’s Theater events, including auditions will be postponed until a later date.
  2. The SoJo Gold Rush on Saturday, March 14, will continue as planned. Race entrants will be able to pick up their shirt, medal and race bag at packet pickup. The medals will available at that time in case runners choose to run virtually or at another time. The race itself will include hand washing stations, hand sanitizer, bottled water (versus cups) and volunteers wearing gloves.

City Services

  1. The City of South Jordan is working through plans to have more employees work from home.
  2. The City will ensure that essential services will continue as normal, which includes a safe drinkable water supply.
  3. The City will continue to update on any changes to service levels during this time.
  4. The Fire Department will not be scheduling any Fire Station tours, nor will we be holding any CPR or First Aid courses.
  5. The Police Department is encouraging residents report anything that is not an active event or emergency through our online reporting system or by telephone contact.
