Your City Sanitation Division is asking for your help to better identify which cans belong to you. They are asking residents to write their house number on the inside of the lid on their garbage and recycling cans, ideally with a bright permanent marker. This helps workers know to which resident the specific can belongs.
This helps when
  1. There are windstorms and cans get blown away from the owner’s home.
  2. There is damage to the lid or can.
  3. A can goes missing.
You may ask why they don’t use the number that’s already on the can. That number is a product number only and isn’t tracked. Plus, cans often get mixed up between owners. It’s easier for all involved to have the house number on them.
