The City has received several inquiries and requests for the municipality to enact a citywide ban on the use of fireworks this year. The Utah State Legislature has limited the actions the Mayor and City Council can take to restrict or ban the use of fireworks citywide. See Utah Code 53-7-225

The Legislature does allow the City Council to impose limited restrictions in areas that have historical hazardous environmental conditions, including wildland interface areas.  In April of 2021, the City Council passed a resolution restricting the use of fireworks in all identifiable hazardous areas within the South Jordan boundaries based on a recommendation from the Fire Department. The restricted firework use areas in South Jordan are the most restrictive allowed by state law. See Resolution R2021-07
