Beauty Lou and the Country Beast : Auditions @ South Jordan Community Center

Calling all South Jordan residents!! Missoula Children’s Theatre and the City are hosting auditions for Beauty Lou and the Country Beast! The MCT team will hold a group audition on March 16 at 4:30 pm in the South Jordan Community Center. MCT will cast 50-60 local students to perform in the Beauty Lou and the Country Beast production. The show will be rehearsed throughout the week of March 16 – 20 and two public performances are presented at the end of the week on March 21.

Who can participate? Kindergarten through 8th-grade students from the South Jordan community.

What is it? A FREE children’s theatre residency and performance brought to South Jordan by Missoula Children’s Theatre!

Where? Auditions, residency, and performance will be held at the South Jordan Community Center, 10778 S. Redwood Rd.

Does my child need any theatre experience? No, all levels are welcome to audition.

COMING SOON! SoJo Plein Air Competition @ TBD
May 16 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

SoJo Plein Air Competition is a fun and fast-paced, plein air (open air) painting contest. The competition is open to youth (17 years and under) and professional or amateur artist (18 years and older). The field is limited to 50 artists on a first-come basis. Paintings must be completed within a strict two-hour period (10:00 am – 12:00 pm). Participating artists may use any two-dimensional medium (oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, etc). No photography or digital media is allowed.

Artists will have the opportunity to display their final artwork in South Jordan City Hall and the Gale Center Museum.

Competition Schedule:
9:00 – 9:30 AM: ARTIST CHECK-IN (MANDATORY)
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Artists find painting location.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: ARTISTS PAINT
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Utah Watercolor Society Paint Out – Spectators can watch professionals from the UWS paint en plein air.
12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Submit art framed & ready to be judged
12:30 – 1:00 PM: Art will be judged

This competition is open to all ages and abilities.
Age Categories: Student (19 and under) & Professional
Bands with members 19 and under may enter the professional category instead of the student category if they wish.

Professional Category
1st Place:  $5,000 cash prize | 40 hr recording studio session at Audio Inn Recording in Salt Lake City
2nd Place: $2,500 cash prize | 2 song demo package at Audio Inn Recording in Salt Lake City

Student Category: (every member must be a teenager)
1st Place: $1,000 cash prize | 2 song demo package at Audio Inn Recording in Salt Lake City

Round 1 Video Submissions
Due April 2, 2020

Thank you for your interest in the SoJo Summerfest Battle of the Bands. By entering this competition, each member of your band must agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • This is an all-ages, family-oriented community event. Music lyrics must be clean. The performance must be free of all violence, vulgarity, lewdness, sexual content, and adult language. Failure to comply with these standards will result in disqualification from the competition.
  • This competition will take place in three rounds as described below. If a band advances to the final round, they will be competing with a 25-minute live set at South Jordan City’s SoJo Summerfest on June 5, 2020
  • Bands chosen to advance will be chosen by judges.
  • Individuals may only enter in one band and the individuals in each band should remain constant.
  • Each band must have at least three members.

Round 1 Video Submission:

  • Each group will submit one four (4) minute video of their band performing one song they feel best represents their group. Any band going over their time limit may be disqualified or have points deducted. Submissions due April 2, 2020.
  • Entries will be judged by an internal committee, the bands progressing to Round 2 will be notified on April 13, 2020.

Round 2 Video Submission:

  • Each advancing group will be required to submit a video of their band playing two additional songs for a total of ten (10) minutes. Songs must include one cover song and one original song OR two cover songs. Videos must be submitted before April 20, 2020. Any band going over their time limit or fail to have additional videos submitted on time may be disqualified or have points deducted.
  • Entries from both rounds will be judged by our professional judges. The bands progressing to the final round will be announced on May 1, 2020.

Final Round:

  • If a band advances to the final round, they will be competing with a 25-minute live set at South Jordan City’s SoJo Summerfest on June 5, 2020.
  • Winners from each category will perform a final 45-minute set on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

Welcome to SoJo Summerfest 2020! South Jordan provides many opportunities to participate in activities and this celebration is a tradition that helps build a sense of community among our residents. As in years past, our vendor area will be focused on crafts and fun things to buy. We urge you to join us in our celebration this year.

New this year: We will only accept applicants who are selling physical items in their booth. Applications for those wishing to advertise their business will not be accepted. No ready-to-eat food (food intended to be eaten on site) vendors will be accepted. Packaged foods that are intended to be eaten at home (salsa, spreads, hummus etc.) are welcome.

Rules & Regulations
1. Registration will only be accepted online at register.sjc.utah.gov

2. $25 registration is due on or before May 8, 2020, 4:00 p.m.
Registration after May 9, 2020 is $30 and a t-shirt is NOT guaranteed.

3. The registration fee provides each team/individual: 1 tote, 2 t-shirt’s, 1 box of thin chalk, hand wipes, and gloves.
-The surface is more bumpy and rough than average sidewalk concrete – we strongly encourage you to bring extra chalk with you if possible.
-Additional chalk may be available upon request, while supplies last, but is not guaranteed. Square Size: Adults – 6ft x 6ft and Youth – 5ft x 5ft

4. Categories:
-Adult (18+), Teen (13-17), and Child (12 & under)
-Teams will be assigned an age category based on oldest team member

5. The South Jordan Arts Council and/or South Jordan City Staff reserve the right to disqualify any artwork that is deemed inappropriate.

6. If the artwork is not your own idea, please give credit to the original source.

7. Photos of the artwork will be taken and may be used for advertising purposes.

8. Judging:
-All chalk art will be judged between 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., regardless of completion.
-Use your time and space wisely. All decisions of the judges are final.
-Chalk art will be judged on Originality, Creativity, and Overall Artistic Impression.

9. Awards: Announced at 1:45 p.m.

*Registration fee only provides 2 t-shirts. Additional t-shirts (while supplies last) can be purchased for $5 each.
