Holiday Lights Tour 2020

We could all use a little extra holiday cheer this year! Join us in “lighting up” South Jordan and Salt Lake Valley by participating in the 2020 Holiday Lights Tour! Cities from around Salt Lake County are teaming up to bring you a Holiday Lights Tour like never before! Visit homes from South Jordan, Bluffdale, Herriman, Midvale, Millcreek, South Salt Lake, and West Jordan! Registration

Registration begins on Monday, November 23rd and will remain open until December 21st. Register early for a better chance to win the People’s Choice Award!

Rules and Guidelines:

  • Do not cover/interfere with any fire safety equipment or walkways
  • Keep everything family-friendly
  • Homes must be located in a participating city
  • Winners will be announced on social media and all winners will receive an email
  • Judging will only include the portion of your house/yard that is visible from the driveway or street
  • Decorated houses should remain decorated through December 26th

SoJo Story Walks

SoJo Story Walks is an interactive story experience where participants can walk along the Jordan River Trail while reading page displays from popular children’s books. Participants can submit photos with their favorite pages and send them in for a chance to win prizes.

The fun begins at 947 W. Shields Lane, 4500 W. Skye Drive and 2400 Royal Heights Drive.

    Annual Spring Cleanup & Shred Event @ Parking Lot North of Public Works Building

    SPRING CLEANUP:

    Dates and Time: Every Tuesday and Thursday during the month of May from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. In addition to those dates, we will also be including two Saturdays which will be Saturday, May 15th and Saturday, May 22nd from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

    Location: 10960 S Park Road (1800 W). Next to the Animal Shelter.

    We CANNOT accept any of the following materials –

    • Construction Garbage
    • Tires
    • Household Hazardous Waste (paint, fertilizers, chemicals, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, etc.)

    E-Waste WILL be accepted.

    *Unloading will be unassisted by staff with this free service. No drop-offs will be allowed after 3:00 P.M.

    SHRED EVENT (Free confidential document shredding):

    Date and Time: Saturday, May 22nd from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

    Location: 10960 S Park Road (1800 W). Next to the Animal Shelter.

    **These services will only be available to South Jordan Residents. Proof of residency is required.**

    Write Around SoJo – Writing Contest @ Online Contest

    Rules and Guidelines

    • $10 resident/$20 non-resident registration fee is due by Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 12:00 pm. Register at register.sjc.utah.gov.
    • 5,000 words or less
    • Categories include: works of poetry, short stories, first chapters, and personal essays
    • Each category will be divided into two groups: youth (12-17) and adults (18+)
    • Only one entry per author will be accepted
    • To keep the submission anonymous, the entrant’s name can only appear on the title page and the title must be on each page.
    • Submissions should
      • Be in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format
      • Use a 12-point standard font (Times New Roman or Courier)
      • Be double spaced with one-inch margins
      • Unpublished works only
    • Works may NOT include:
      • Discriminatory Content (ableism, racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia, etc.)
      • Copyrighted Materials
      • Overly Controversial Content

    Judging Criteria

    • Submissions will be scored on a scale of 1 to 10 in the following categories:
      • Originality
      • Writing style (voice)
      • Plot Structure
      • Characterization
      • Quality of writing
      • Grammar
    • Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.
