Adult Mixed Media Art Classes @ South Jordan Community Center

Hey Adults! The South Jordan Arts Council is bringing you art classes every Monday in January through April. The classes will be from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the South Jordan Community Center located at 10778 S. Redwood Rd. Classes include drawing, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media.  If you miss a class no problem, each class teaches a different lesson so you won’t fall behind. All levels of experience are welcome. All classes are taught by a professional art instructor. Classes are $10 per person, register online at http://register.sjc.utah.gov.

Vintage Dance Classes @ South Jordan Community Center

Solving your dilemma of being born in the wrong century with the dancing and dress of classic eras past!

1st & 3rd Wednesday, January – June from 8 pm to 9:30 pm.
Community Center Auditorium, 10778 S. Redwood Rd.
Classes are $7.50 for non-society members and $5.00 for society members.

Register online at http://register.sjc.utah.gov.

Wear? No special clothes are needed for the classes. Just wear your modern casual clothes and some comfortable flat shoes.

What? You do not need to have any previous dance experience. If you can walk, count and turn about, you can vintage dance. Vintage dances are group dances, so you aren’t left alone on the dance floor. Kimberli teaches each dance before the music is played and prompts your steps while you are dancing to the music.

Who? Anyone 14 and older, unless previous permission has been granted for younger people. You don’t need to bring a partner, although it is more enjoyable if you do.

Chalk Art Contest at SoJo Summerfest @ Heritage Park

Rules & Regulations
1. Registration will only be accepted online at register.sjc.utah.gov

2. $25 registration is due on or before May 17, 2019, 4:00 p.m.
Registration after May 17, 2019 is $30 and a t-shirt is NOT guaranteed.

3. The registration fee provides each team/individual: 1 tote, 2 t-shirt’s, 1 box of thin chalk, hand wipes, and gloves.
-The surface is more bumpy and rough than average sidewalk concrete – we strongly encourage you to bring extra chalk with you if possible.
-Additional chalk may be available upon request, while supplies last, but is not guaranteed. Square Size: Adults – 6ft x 6ft and Youth – 5ft x 5ft

4. Categories:
-Adult (18+), Teen (13-17), and Child (12 & under)
-Teams will be assigned an age category based on oldest team member

5. The South Jordan Arts Council and/or South Jordan City Staff reserve the right to disqualify any artwork that is deemed inappropriate.

6. If the artwork is not your own idea, please give credit to the original source.

7. Photos of the artwork will be taken and may be used for advertising purposes.

8. Judging:
-All chalk art will be judged between 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., regardless of completion.
-Use your time and space wisely. All decisions of the judges are final.
-Chalk art will be judged on Originality, Creativity, and Overall Artistic Impression.

9. Awards: Announced at 1:45 p.m.

*Registration fee only provides 2 t-shirts. Additional t-shirts (while supplies last) can be purchased for $5 each.

Sunshine Generation – Childrens Performing Group @ South Jordan Community Center

Welcome to the Sunshine Generation, the LEADING non-auditioned, award-winning, international children’s performing group training boys and girls since 1979. The unique Sunshine program teaches children performance techniques and skills for success by stressing SINGING, DANCING, SHOWMANSHIP & CONFIDENCE. These skills will serve your child for a lifetime. Music styles vary from country, pop & oldies to Broadway and beloved standards. We offer wholesome music and costumes and prepare fours shows a year to perform all over the community.

Sunbeams (3-5 years) 4:30-5:20pm

Sundance Kids (6-8 years) 4:30-5:20pm

Solar Sounds (9+ years) 4:30-5:20pm

Adult Art Classes @ South Jordan Community Center

Hey Adults! The City of South Jordan is bringing you, art classes, every Monday in March and April. The classes will be from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the South Jordan Community Center located at 10778 S. Redwood Rd. Classes will be taught in a series, March will go over watercolor and April will teach acrylic.  These classes are created for beginners but all levels of experience are welcome. All classes are taught by a professional art instructor. Each session (4 classes) is $62 per person, supplies are not included (see supplies list below). Recommended Age: 16 years old and up

March 2, 9, 23, 30  ***No class on March 16***

March – Watercolor Syllabus: 

Week 1 – Learn drawing concepts and fundamentals of watercolor painting. Start the drawing process.

Week 2 – Learn layering techniques and color mixing. Finish drawing, start painting!

Week 3 – Learning about detail and how to use other materials for finishing touches. Finish painting, use markers or detail brush to finish the artwork.

Week 4 – Completion day.  Students can move at their own pace and work on more than one painting during each class. We will use this day to finish all paintings started throughout the course.

Class Supply List:

Watercolor palette (any brand and as many colors as you’d like, just make sure there’s at least blue, yellow, red, and black)

Watercolor paper (any brand and any size)

Brushes – a small detail brush and larger medium-sized brush (you can get value packs of watercolor brushes at the craft store, these work well and are very cheap)

Reference material – bring a picture(s) of what you’d like to paint

Instructor Bio

Art Class with Nancy is a monthly, creativity-based, four class, art course for boys and girls ages 2nd-6th grade. Each month focuses on a new project.

Nancy Landon-Davis holds a BA in Studio Art. She has taught in Salt Lake County since 2001.

COMING SOON! Group Guitar Lessons @ South Jordan Community Center

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar? This 8-week group course is created for beginners ages 15 years old and up. Only 10 slots available, registration opens on March 2, 2020!

Date: Every Tuesday, April 7 – May 26
