Message from the Chief
Welcome to the South Jordan Police Department’s website. South Jordan City is a vibrant growing city and home to nearly 78,000 residents. Our philosophy of policing the city is one of positive engagement with our many stakeholders including our residents, community leaders, and businesses. I want to thank the community for your support, and I especially want to thank our police officers for the good work they do every day and the professionalism they consistently exhibit.
Policing has changed dramatically in the last few decades and technology has made our job both easier and more complex. However, the basic tenets of policing a community have not changed. The father of modern policing, Sir Robert Peel, in 1829 said “The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon public approval of police existence, actions, behavior, and the ability of the police to secure and maintain public respect.” I believe this philosophy is still relevant today. It is my hope the South Jordan Police Department has earned the public’s respect through our behavior and actions while policing and protecting this community.
Sir Robert Peel also said “The police at all times should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police.” Our police department understands our authority comes from the public we serve. Any success we have in reducing crime comes in part from our partnership with the community and the residents we serve. We must have your help. Your safety and security is our highest priority, and we hope it is yours as well.
Through our partnership, we hope to effectively identify and address persistent criminal and community problems. Residents should always demand their police department be accountable with them in the public safety mission. I commit to you that your police department will always strive to work with the community as we address the many challenges surely coming our way.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message. I hope you find the resources you need. Please feel free to contact us if you need any additional information.
